The Goal: Collect 5 Million Pounds of Trash & Grow 5 Million Oysters by 2030

A LEGENDARY TEAM UP

It's official, Mr. Trash Wheel has been announced as the First Draft Pick for the Baltimore Ravens’ 2025 season!

While Mr. Trash Wheel lends a googly eye to the field, the Ravens will be bringing the team spirit to the waterfront, with a commitment to environmental work that will help clean the harbor, plant more oysters, increase wildlife and biodiversity, and improve water quality.

And we want YOU to join the team!

With more oyster gardening volunteer events and opportunities coming up later this year, we’re going to need some extra teammates alongside us. Join our Mailing List to get involved and be the first to learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities

What It’ll Take to be Harbor Champions 2030

Trash Receiver:

Remove 5 Million Pounds of Litter and Debris

Over the next 5 years, we’ll be using Mr. Trash Wheel to remove 5 million pounds of litter and debris from the Baltimore harbor- talk about a touchdown.

Mr. Trash Wheel was first installed in 2014 and since then, the Mr. Trash Wheel family has grown to include Professor Trash Wheel, Captain Trash Wheel, and Gwynnda the Good Wheel of the West. Situated at the mouths of streams and stormwater outfalls around Baltimore Harbor, the Mr. Trash Wheel family uses renewable energy to skim trash out of the waterFrom cigarette butts to plastic bottles, from old guitars to mattresses, Mr. Trash Wheel has seen (and eaten) it all. With our commitment to remove 5 million pounds of trash by 2030, we’ll be leveling the playing field for our harbor’s wildlife and the marine ecosystem.

Oyster Offense:

Grow 5 Million Oysters in Baltimore Harbor

Oysters are a keystone species of the Chesapeake Bay. They filter water and provide habitat helping to keep our Harbor clean and restore our ecosystem.

The Baltimore Oyster Partnership grows baby oysters at docks and marinas throughout  the Baltimore waterfront. Once they mature, the oysters are transported  to a protected oyster sanctuary in the Patapsco River, where they live out the rest of their lives as a crucial part of our Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. Through our partnership with the Ravens, the Baltimore Oyster Partnership will double its oyster restoration program to grow  5 million oysters in Baltimore Harbor by 2030. But we can’t do it alone, It’ll Take a Team Effort!

A Legendary Team Up

The Ravens and Mr. Trash Wheel, two of our city’s most beloved icons, are teaming up to represent the ultimate show of city pride.

The Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation has pledged a grant donation over the next 5 years that will support Waterfront Partnership’s Healthy Harbor Initiative and its work improving and maintaining Baltimore Harbor’s ecosystem. The grant funding will aid with capital improvements to the Mr. Trash Wheel Family, trash wheel operations and maintenance, and oyster restoration efforts showing off his own team spirit, Mr. Trash Wheel will be dressed in Ravens apparel while he works to clear debris and trash from the Inner Harbor.
